Norfolk police found a stolen 2005 Hummer and let Suffolk police know they had retrieved it on Sunday morning, before its Greene Chapel Road owner was even aware that it was gone.

The recovery capped off a busy morning for police in the Cathedral Drive and Greene Chapel Road areas of King’s Fork, where there were several reports of vehicles that were tampered with.

There were five different reports of vehicle-related crimes, including the auto theft, in that area on Sunday, according to police reports.

Two people had items — an iPod, some CDs and about $70 in cash — stolen from their vehicles during the evening hours. Other victims awoke to find items strewn across passenger seats, but nothing missing.

The neighbor of the person whose Hummer was stolen awoke to find paperwork scattered in the front seat, but everything else intact, according to Suffolk spokeswoman Debbie George.

George said there was no reason to believe that the weekend’s rash of vehicle tamperings and thefts was related to another spate of thefts from vehicles in the Chatham Woods and Schooner Cove neighborhoods last week.
