Ms. Luvenia Ruffin, 58, of 1306 Spencer Court, Suffolk, died Friday, Aug. 21, 2009, at her son’s residence.
She was a native of Nansemond County.
She was born Sept. 8, 1950, to the late Tom Ruffin Sr. and Martha Eley Ruffin.
She was a 1970 graduate of John F. Kennedy High School. She was employed at Kraft Foods Inc., formerly known as Planters, where she was honored for her 35 years of service this year. She was a lifelong member of Paul Branch Baptist Church, where she served as church treasurer under the pastorship of the Rev. A.L. Lassiter.
She was predeceased by her late sister, Fannie Ruffin, and two brothers, James McCoy Ruffin and Roy Ruffin.
Luvenia Ruffin leaves to cherish her memory: a loving and devoted son, Ervin (Jeanette) Ruffin, of Suffolk, Va.; five sisters, Gloria (John) Riddick and Shirley (Marshall) Donaldson, of Suffolk, Va., Carolene (Nathaniel) Hunter, of Portsmouth, Va., Lucille Johnson and Alberta (Fred) Neville, of Alexandria, Va.; three brothers, George Ruffin, of Chesapeake, Va., Robert (Elaine) Ruffin and Tom Ruffin Jr., of Suffolk, Va.; nephew, Kaaron Ruffin, of Suffolk, Va.; two sisters-in-law, Theresa Ruffin, of Chesapeake, Va., and Annette Ruffin, of Suffolk, Va.; two grandchildren, Adele Ruffin and Raven Ruffin; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The funeral will be held at noon Wednesday in Faith Temple Church, 476 Wellons St., Suffolk, with Bishop Lewis Stokes Sr. officiating. Burial will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at 1006 Sawtooth Drive, Suffolk, Monday and Tuesday.
Viewing will begin at noon Tuesday in Wyatt and Sons Funeral Home, Inc. The body will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Family and friends will assemble at 11 a.m. at the residence of Luvenia Ruffin, 1306 Spencer Court.
