Students seeking a bachelor’s degree at a four-year college or university can save money by completing the first two years of general studies at a community college. Currently, tuition and total mandatory fees for a full academic year at community colleges in Virginia average $3,229 versus $7,984 at four-year state institutions of higher education.
Students enrolled in a two-year transfer degree program at any of the 23 community colleges in the Virginia Community College System also have a number of options available to them through a growing number of college-specific and statewide transfer and articulation agreements that guarantee admission to four-year colleges and universities under certain conditions.
College-specific articulation agreements
Paul D. Camp Community College has specific transfer articulation agreements in place with Old Dominion University, St. Paul’s College, James Madison University, Norfolk State University (Early Childhood Development) and Strayer University.
Statewide articulation/transfer agreements with public colleges and universities include the following:
College of William and Mary: Transfer of associate degree graduates in a transfer program with a GPA of 3.6, who have completed a “Letter of Intent to Transfer to William and Mary” upon completion of 15 credit hours of coursework at the VCCS.
Norfolk State University Guaranteed Admission Agreement: Transfer of students who graduate from a transfer-oriented degree program with a 2.0 cumulative GPA, and who declare interest in enrolling at NSU through the Guaranteed Admission Agreement.
Old Dominion University Old Dominion University: Transfer of students who graduate with an associate degree, a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5, and grades no lower than a C in any course.
