Lady Cavs rout King’s Fork

Kendell Combs tallied four goals and three assists on Wednesday as Lakeland’s field hockey team routed city rival King’s Fork 10-0 at King’s Fork.
Breanne Langston’s goal, off of Combs’ first assist of the match, opened the scoring 57 seconds into the match.
A goal by Combs in the ninth minute and a goal by Kristin Buck in the 19th minute made Lakeland’s lead 3-0 at halftime.
Combs scored her second 2:10 into the second half. Taylor Young and Kelsey Smither scored two goals each in the second half. Smither converted a penalty stroke, her second of the season, with six minutes remaining in the match to put Lakeland up 8-0. Combs’ fourth goal of the day made it 9-0 less than two minutes later.
Smither had two assists to go with her two goals. Morgan McCaw had two assists.
Lakeland improved to 7-1 overall and 4-0 in the Southeastern District. The Lady Cavaliers have outscored their district opponents 32-0. Both Lakeland and Nansemond River have wins over King’s Fork; Lakeland and NR meet on Oct. 21 at NR.
King’s Fork drops to 1-3-1 overall and 1-3-0 in the district. King’s Fork plays at Lake Taylor on Friday at 3 p.m. KF hosts Southampton on Monday afternoon and returns to Southeastern District play on Wednesday at Deep Creek.
Lakeland meets Beach District school Ocean Lakes (3-0) on Friday at 4 p.m. at the U.S. Field Hockey National Training Center in Virginia Beach. The Lady Cavaliers are 2-0 against Beach opponents this season after beating Kempsville and Tallwood during a tournament three weeks ago at the National Training Center.
