Over the past few weeks, we have truly enjoyed covering the tale of the pig currently being housed in the Suffolk Animal Shelter.

We’ve offered coverage of the pig’s first day in captivity, its newfound friendship with a fellow shelter resident — a pit bull — and now the shelter’s work to find it a happy home.

This story is simply one of many happy stories that comes from the shelter every day, every week and again highlights the great work and special passion for the job shown by those who operate the shelter.

But, unfortunately, not every shelter story is a happy one.

Just a few weeks ago, the shelter worked to combat an outbreak of parvo that unfortunately claimed the lives of some of the shelter’s animals and forced the shelter to close while decontamination work went on.

But the shelter’s mission and dedication never waned through that process. Their focus on taking care of animals and working tirelessly to find good hopes for these pets is what drives them.

Each Sunday, we happily help the shelter spotlight two animals up for adoption and encourage every family looking for their next furry member of the family to make the shelter their first stop.

For many, the love and comfort that comes with a pound puppy or pound kitty is as good as it gets.

And, over the coming weeks, maybe one local family can say the same for their newly adopted pound piggy.
