Langley action resumes Saturday

HAMPTON – After taking a breather last weekend, Langley Speedway competitors return to action this Saturday as the track’s 2009 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series campaign heads into its homestretch with McDonald’s Night.

Saturday’s feature lineup includes: Crossroads Fuel Service Late Model Stock Cars (100 laps); the Rolling Thunder Modified tour (75 laps); Atlantic Power Sweeping Super Streets (50 laps); Med Express Urgent Care Super Trucks (25 laps); Casey Cycle City INEX Legends (25 laps); EZ Auto of Newport News UCARs (25 laps); and Standard Welding Pro 6s (30 laps).

Front gates open at 1 p.m. with afternoon practice rounds running from 2-4. Time trials start at 4:30. Pre-race activities begin at 6:55 and the Pro Sixers lead off the evening’s feature program, shortly after 7.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children, 6-12. “Little Race Fans” (under 6) are admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Military members in uniform are also admitted free. Military members in civvies (active-duty or retired, with ID) and senior citizens (60+, with ID) receive a $2 discount off the regular adult ticket price. “Family Packs,” which include two adult and two children’s tickets, are $25 – a savings of $5.

Late Model points leader C.E. Falk finished seventh in the final NASCAR Whelen All-American Series national Top 500. The information was released by NASCAR Wednesday.

In the final rundown, Falk was sandwiched between a pair of Canadian drivers, sixth-place Steve Robblee and eighth-place Ron Sheridan, who both compete at Delaware Speedway in Delaware, Ontario.

Philip Morris of Ruckersville, who clinched his seventh track title at Motor Mile Speedway in Radford, last weekend, is the 2009 national champ. He has won three of the last four national titles (2006, 2008, 2009).

NASCAR action continues at Langley Speedway on Saturday, Sept. 26, when the track hosts Fire/EMS Night. The feature slate includes: Crossroads Fuel Service Late Model Stock Cars, B&C Seafood Modifieds, Old Point National Bank Grand Stocks, Atlantic Power Sweeping Super Streets, Casey Cycle City INEX Legends, Standard Welding Pro 6s and Rhonnda Claiborne, Realtor HRKC Pro Winged Champ Karts.

A longtime member of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series, Langley Speedway is a .395-mile, slightly-banked oval. The track is located at 11 Dale Lemonds Dr., off North Armistead Ave., in Hampton.
