A 15-year-old Suffolk boy pleaded not guilty Thursday to eight counts of arson in Suffolk Circuit Court.

Kelly Golden Jr. is charged with arson related to the June 24 fire in three houses on Franklin Street. He faces five counts of burning or destroying personal property, two counts of arson of occupied dwellings and one count of arson of an unoccupied dwelling.

The charges of burning or destroying personal property address the damage or destruction of personal vehicles parked at the homes during the fire, as well as a fire truck that responded to it. Several emergency light lenses, a hose cover and a length of hose on the truck melted at the scene.

The fire, which destroyed an occupied house, a duplex and an unoccupied home, along with a two-story garage, started in the vacant house and quickly spread to the buildings on either side.

A total of 11 people were displaced from their homes by the blaze, and four firefighters were taken to the hospital with minor injuries suffered while fighting the fire.

After entering his not guilty plea, Golden requested a jury trial, which is set for Jan. 8, according to prosecutor Jim Wiser.
