Saint, Cavalier CC teams in action

At the Bill McGough Cross Country Invitational at Peninsula Catholic on Saturday, Nansemond-Suffolk’s varsity girls team finished third led by Katelyn McCracken finishing 19th in a time of 23:20. Meera Venkataraman, Macy Mears, Darcy King and Emily Neuburg also led the Lady Saints. The girls JV team took 3rd place, led by Maya Venkataraman who won in a time of 22.43.

On the boys’ side, Nansemond-Suffolk’s David Leber won the meet and NSA finished seventh of 14 teams overall. The boys JV team was 4th place. Matthew Lawrence, a 7th grade student, received a trophy for his 13th place finish.

Lakeland junior Devin Keel set the school’s cross country record for the second straight meet. Keel ran a time of 19:41 on Saturday at the 51st Annual William and Mary Cross Country Invitational.

The varsity boys team placed 13 out of 13 in the B team race. Keel placed 34th out of 88 runners.

The JV girls all had season-best times with freshman Courtney Moscato running 5k in 26:59.

The Cavaliers will compete in a Southeastern district meet Tuesday against Grassfield, Oscar Smith and Western Branch. Cavaliers will be competing in Greensboro, N.C. on Saturday in the 26th Annual Greensboro Cross Country Invitational.
