HAMPTON – Four division champions will be crowned Saturday as Langley Speedway plays host to Casey Cycle City Night, the next-to-last event of its 2009 NASCAR Whelen All-American points season.
Saturday’s feature lineup includes: Atlantic Power Sweeping Super Streets (50 laps); Med Express Urgent Care Super Trucks (25 laps); Casey Cycle City INEX Legends (25 laps); EZ Auto of Newport News UCARs (25 laps); Standard Welding Pro 6s (30 laps); and, Larry King Legal Services Enduros (50 laps).
Front gates open at 1 p.m. with afternoon practice rounds running from 2 ‘til 4. A drivers meeting is slated for 4:15, followed by time trials at 4:30. Pre-race activities begin at 6:55 and the Pro Sixers lead off the evening’s feature program, shortly after 7.
The Super Street, INEX Legends, Pro 6 and Enduro classes will wrap up their ‘09 points seasons on Saturday night. Let’s take a look at the division leaders and what they’ll need to do to secure championships:
Randy Sample carries a comfortable 36-point edge, 554-518, over Jonathan Mullett into the Super Street finale. With one win and six runner-up finishes to his credit, Sample owns the tiebreaker advantage and can clinch the title by finishing 19th or better.
In the INEX Legends division, Steve Keesee holds a 30-point margin, 512-482, over Jamie Price. Keesee enjoys a 3-1 edge in race wins, the first tiebreaker, and can seal the ‘09 crown by finishing 16th or better.
Wayne Groome is clinging to a tenuous, four-point lead, 222-218, over Mike Ganoe as the Enduros return from a two-month layoff for their points finale. With three race wins, Ganoe has the tiebreaker in his hip pocket. Even so, Groome can claim the title with a runner-up finish on Saturday.
In the Pro 6 division, eight-time race winner Casey Sipe has already clinched the ‘09 championship. He holds an insurmountable 76-point lead over Lindsay Bryant.
Langley Speedway’s 2009 points season comes to an end on Saturday, Oct. 10, with a six-race feature slate.
Langley’s “post-season” schedule kicks off on Saturday, Oct. 17, with the 4th Annual Virginia State UCAR Championship and the 2nd Annual Super Street Showdown. Pro 6s, Champ Karts and Enduros round out the lineup.
On Saturday, Oct. 24, the track hosts the 4th Annual Night of Destruction. Fans can look forward to a full slate of Enduros, demolition derbies and other wild-and-wacky novelty events. For prospective competitors, entry information can be found on the track’s Web site – langley-speedway.com.
