A home in the Bennett’s Creek area was destroyed by fire early Saturday morning.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue received a report of a fire in a single-story home in the 5600 block of River Bluff Drive about 5:30 a.m. Saturday morning.

Firefighters arrived on the scene to find flames coming through the roof. They brought the blaze under control in about two hours, but the structure was ruled a complete loss.

The owner of the residence was out of town at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported, according to city officials.

Fire officials estimate that there was $250,000 in damage to the structure and $40,000 in damage to its contents. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
