Anyone looking for food and fun this weekend might want to make a point of dropping by Creekside Shops on Saturday.

Beginning at 11 a.m., several Bridge Road businesses are partnering to put on a fall festival at the Creekside Shops. The Grater Kitchen, Nail Time, Bennett’s Creek Farm Market and Bennett’s Creek Pharmacy will participate in the fun, most of which is free. Entry fees for various contests will be donated to the Driver Volunteer Fire Department.

“We’re just kind of new to the community, and we wanted to help the volunteer fire department, and do something to help out the community,” said Ashley Baird, co-owner with her parents of The Grater Kitchen.

The event will feature free hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, drinks and Brunswick stew. A bar of hot chocolate, hot cider and coffee will be offered for $1 per cup, with all the money being donated to the Driver Volunteer Fire Department.

Renowned bakers in the area will want to try their hand at preparing pumpkin and apple pies for the contest. The entry fee for the contest is $10 per pie. Half of the entry fees will go to the winner, and half will go to the fire department. The Grater Kitchen’s cooking class chefs, along with a representative from the fire department, will be the judges.

Adults also can participate in a cornhole contest. The entry fee is $5, and again, half the proceeds will go to the winner and half to the fire department.

“We need as many entries as possible,” for both the pie contest and cornhole contest, Baird said.

In addition, other activities will be going on throughout the day. Children’s activities will include crafts and a face-painting table. Inside The Grater Kitchen, cooking demonstrations by some of the area’s best chefs will be given, and there will be a free gift with every purchase. Light refreshments also will be served.

The DJ will raffle off a variety of items from The Grater Kitchen’s shelves throughout the day. Raffle tickets are $1 each, with proceeds also going to the fire department.

The event begins at 11 a.m., and will last “until things die down,” Baird said. A similar event last spring brought out about 500 people, she said.

At the Bennett’s Creek Pharmacy, customers can win door prizes, enter a drawing and get 25 percent off the price of ornaments and selected gifts, said employee Rana Weaver. The first 20 customers also will receive coupons. The pharmacy also is providing gift bags and balloons for the outdoor festivities, Weaver said.

People hoping to bring pies or play cornhole should call ahead to 483-0043 to register. Entry fees will be collected the day of the event. Pies should be turned in between 11 a.m. and noon.
