City to pick up storm debris free

The city of Suffolk Department of Public Works will pick up storm debris 16 cubic yards or less at no cost to residents beginning Wednesday.

City spokeswoman Debbie George sent a release Tuesday announcing the decision. Residents should place piles on the curb by 7 a.m. on their regular collection day. Notification to Public Works of the need to pick up the debris is not necessary.

In addition, the city is encouraging community clean-up efforts. To assist in these efforts, Public Works will pick up non-storm debris of 16 cubic yards or less free of charge if the debris comes from a community clean-up. Beginning Dec. 1, piles of eight cubic yards will be free and 9-16 cubic yards will be $50.
