Indictment handed down in murder of soldier

A Suffolk grand jury on Monday indicted a Chesapeake man with four felonies in connection with the September shooting of a soldier.

Timothy Wayne Sanders, 47 at the time of the shooting, was indicted on first-degree murder, shoot, stab, cut or wound, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and discharging a firearm in an occupied building.

According to a police report at the time of the accident, Sanders and the victim, Matthew Stephenson Jr., 41, were guests in a Nansemond Pointe Drive home Sept. 4 when an argument broke out. Sanders left the home, went to his vehicle, returned and shot Stephenson several times.

Sanders then fled the residence, but returned later and turned himself in to police.

Stephenson was a resident of Jacksonville, Fla., and was temporarily assigned to Fort Lee for training.

In all, the grand jury indicted 34 defendants on various charges Monday.

Douglas Marvin Arnette Jr. — buy or sell wild animal or bird (2 counts)

Sheltina Lashell Blakely — malicious bodily injury, shoot, stab, cut or wound

Clarence Christopher Branch — possess cocaine

Marcus Lee Brinkley — robbery, use of firearm in commission of felony, conspiracy to commit a felony

Maurice Adam Britt — drive while habitual offender, subsequent offense

Derek Antione Brown — grand larceny, from the person

Nancy Copeland — grand larceny

Shaun Evans Cross — possess cocaine

Deon Daughtrey — grand larceny (2 counts), conspiracy to commit larceny, burglary tools possession, destruction of property

Danny Lee Dundlow — sexual penetration with object, force or incapacity (2 counts), malicious wounding, abduction with intent to defile, aggravated sexual battery by force, serious injury

George Joe Eure III — unauthorized use of vehicle

Wilvern Major Flythe — grand larceny, larceny with intent to sell or distribute

Courtney Pender Frontin — forgery, uttering

Michael Duncan Harp — grand larceny

Eric Chavez Johnson — burglary, statutory, building, larceny with intent to sell or distribute, grand larceny

Lavarius Jones — grand larceny (2 counts), conspiracy to commit larceny, burglary tools possession, receiving stolen firearm, possession of marijuana, destruction of property, possess/transport/conceal firearm by convicted felon

Kierra R. King — attempted malicious wounding

Justin Tyler Layton — conspiracy to distribute/possess a controlled substance, possession of heroin with intent to distribute

Corey Meier — carnal knowledge of a minor, contributing to delinquency of a minor, indecent liberties with child (sexual intercourse), indecent liberties with child (enticing)

Abdul Rahmen Muhammad — drive while habitual offender, subsequent offense

Tyrese Pharrell — possession of cocaine

Curtis Andre Porter II — forge or utter counterfeit bills (6 counts)

Joe Chester Ricks — larceny, third offense (2 counts)

Christopher Burchell Rodgers — enter property with intent to damage

Christopher Robert Salas — conspiracy to commit larceny, grand larceny, burglary tools possession, destruction of property

Timothy Wayne Sanders — first-degree murder, shoot, stab, cut or wound, use of firearm in the commission of a felony, discharge firearm/throw missile in/at occupied building

Johnny Lee Simpson Jr. — unlawful wounding

Kevin James Sinclair — driving while intoxicated, third offense within five years

Miranda Thorne — conspiracy to distribute/possess a controlled substance, possession of heroin with intent to distribute

Anthony Earl White — possession of cocaine with intent to distribute

Terrell Jermaine Whitley — robbery, conspiracy to commit a felony, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony

Timothy Louis Williams — possession of Schedule I or II drug with intent to distribute

Bryan Jarrel Wilson — conspiracy to commit a felony, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, robbery
