Suffolk shoppers hit stores throughout the day Friday to get the best possible deals on Christmas gifts.

Many shoppers were at the doors when they opened Friday morning, hoping to get “doorbuster deals,” deep discounts available only during the first few hours the store is open.

Others, however, slept in on their day off and hit the stores later.

“We didn’t come early because I couldn’t care less,” Amber Shea said. Shea shopped at the Kohl’s store in North Suffolk with her husband and daughter around noon.

Shea and her husband, Bobby Shea, examined their receipt in the parking lot. The two spent only $102 on gifts of clothes and jewelry, but their receipt indicated Black Friday discounts had saved them $131.

“I got seven people out of the way,” Shea said.

At the Wal-Mart in downtown Suffolk, manager Lisa Bean called it a “good day” for the store.

“It’s going pretty good,” Bean said. “A lot of the customers did comment that they really like the organization of the new plans.” The downtown store recently was remodeled.

“It was definitely a successful day for us,” Bean added.

Jacqueline Cofer shopped at the Bed, Bath & Beyond store in North Suffolk, and snagged good deals on candles, Christmas snacks and a retractable dog leash with attached flashlight and bag holder.

“It’s been great,” Cofer said, adding that she would never get up early to shop.

“Not me,” Cofer said. “Forget that.”

Kari Mills grabbed a mountain bike for her son for only $49 at the North Suffolk Wal-Mart, a deal that attracted many people to the store. However, she waited until about 9 a.m. to hit the stores.

It was the first time of Black Friday shopping for Sherilyn Foxwell, who purchased clothes, toys and kitchenware at the North Suffolk Kohl’s.

“I think we got a pretty good deal on everything,” she said, adding that she typically doesn’t shop on Black Friday.

“I try to avoid it if I can,” she said.
