HAMPTON — November is National Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month and Arena Racing Hampton Roads is doing its part to aid the cause on Saturday as the series teams up with the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network for the PANCAN 200 at the Hampton Coliseum.

Saturday’s race lineup includes A, B and C Mains — 50 laps each. The evening’s grand finale, the 50-lap Top Dog race, features the top six finishers from the A Main and the top four finishers from the B and C Mains.

Doors open at 6 p.m. for the pre-race pit party — an excellent opportunity to meet the drivers and get an up-close look at the cars. Following opening ceremonies, the evening’s racing program kicks off at 7. Drivers will also be available to meet fans on the concourse at the conclusion of the Top Dog feature.

Travis Wall, Matt Leach and rookie contender Josh Ayer joined the growing list of new winners last Saturday night with victories in the Top Dog feature, B Main and C Main, respectively. Through the first four events of the 2009-10 campaign, 16 races have yielded 13 different winners.

Spencer Saunders, who scored a flag-to-flag victory in last week’s A Main, became just the third multiple race winner. He notched his first win in the Top Dog race on Halloween night. Patrick Morgan and Cody Turbitt have also posted two wins this season.

Pancreatic cancer is known as an insidious “silent killer,” since it often isn’t diagnosed until it reaches an advanced stage. The disease claimed noted actor Patrick Swayze in September.

The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PCAN) is a national organization devoted to a multi-pronged program of research, patient support, community outreach (like Saturday’s Arena Racing event) and advocacy for a cure. PCAN representatives will staff an information booth on the Coliseum concourse this Saturday evening.

To learn more about the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network and its “Know it. Fight it. End it.” campaign, consult the organization’s Web site — www.pancan.org. To show support for the fight against pancreatic cancer, fans are asked to wear purple this Saturday night.

Arena Racing Hampton Roads Top 10 (through Event 4 of 15): 1. Scott Prillaman, 123; 2. Adam Florian, 120; 3. Charlie Green, 113; 4. Spencer Saunders, 112; 5. Travis Wall, 109; 6. Patrick Morgan, 107; tie Robbie Davis, 107; 8. Derek Miller, 106; 9. Aaron Leach, 102; 10. Jordan Wood, 97.

Arena Racing Hampton Roads will take next weekend off. Action resumes on Saturday, Dec. 12, for the final race of 2009. Following a holiday break, the series charges into 2010 on Saturday, Jan. 2.
