Public utilities capital improvements, firearms regulations and a National Night Out award announcement all are on the short agenda for Wednesday’s City Council meeting.

The work session begins at 4 p.m. in City Council chambers, 441 Market St. The regular meeting begins at 7 p.m.

Al Moor, director of Public Utilities, will present the utility capital improvements plan to City Council during the work session. Department heads have been presenting capital improvements needs during the last several work sessions. City Council will decide on a full capital improvements plan later in the budget process.

During the regular meeting, the city will find out where it placed in the National Night Out event. An anti-crime and pro-community effort held every August, National Night Out encourages participating communities to send in scrapbooks and videos from the event to be judged. Suffolk is defending its national first-place title from last year.

Also during the regular meeting, Deputy City Manager Patrick Roberts will present an update on the proposed regulations regarding the discharge of firearms in certain areas of the city. A meeting was held this month to get public comment on the proposed regulations.
