The Suffolk area is under a flood watch and hazardous weather outlook through Wednesday morning as another severe storm prepares to move through the area.

The National Weather Service in Wakefield on Tuesday issued a flood watch for much of southeastern Virginia, including Suffolk. A low-pressure area is expected to bring up to two inches of rain to the area, with higher amounts possible locally. Given high levels of rain recently, the additional rainfall may lead to flooding of small creeks, streams and rivers, in addition to other flood-prone areas, according to an advisory from the weather service. A thunderstorm is possible between 2 and 4 p.m. Wednesday.

A flood watch means there is a potential for flooding. Residents should monitor conditions and be alert for flood warnings. Residents in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.

By Wednesday night, the storm is expected to be over. A high of 71 is expected on Wednesday, falling to around 45 Wednesday night.
