Chesapeake native and Suffolk MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) instructor Antwain “The Juggernaut” Britt won his Strikeforce debut on Saturday night in San Jose, Ca. against Scott Lighty with a first-round TKO by a doctor’s stoppage.

Britt improved to 12-2 in his professional career. Nine of his 12 victories have come in the first round.

In the light heavyweight (205 pounds) fight, Britt knocked down Lighty (5-1) four times in the round and cut him on the forehead near the end of the five-minute round. Before starting the second round, according to sherdog.com, the fight was “waved off…perhaps at the request of Lighty’s corner.”

Britt, 31, has a five-year career in mixed martial art fighting. Britt is an Indian River alum and former wrestler. Britt’s the head kickboxing instructor at Suffolk MMA, which opened in October.

According to fightline.com’s play-by-play of the match, “Britt landed some big shots early on,” and shortly after, “Britt floored Light with a big overhand right and started to wail away.”

Part of sherdog.com’s description of the fight included: “Britt jumps on (Lighty) again, dropping him this time with a series of punches. Lighty turtles, trying to cover up as Britt, draped on his back is pounding away.”

Heading into Saturday night, sherdog.com predicted an easy win for Lighty. “Do not expect Britt to offer much resistance,” said sherdog.com; and “a one-sided thrashing ends violently, as Lighty puts Britt down and out with a brain-melting right hand counter.”
