Suffolk police have identified a suspect in a shooting that took place last week in North Suffolk and are asking for the public’s help in finding the suspect.
Deon McCoy Thomas, 20, is wanted for aggravated malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and shooting into an occupied vehicle, among other charges.
Thomas is reported to have friends or relatives who live in the 4700 block of Helens Burgh Drive in Chesapeake and the 700 block of Bismark Myrick Street in Portsmouth. He should be considered armed and dangerous, according to a city press release.
At about 9:15 p.m. on Dec. 23, emergency dispatchers received a call of shots fired in the 5600 block of Plummer Boulevard, according to city spokeswoman Debbie George. The victim, John Craig, 26, had been shot twice in the face.
After failing to find help at homes on Plummer Boulevard, Craig drove himself to his girlfriend’s house in the 4600 block of Maplewood Drive, striking a tree on Plummer Boulevard when leaving. He was later taken by ambulance to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, where he was recovering late last week.
Anyone who has information on Thomas’ whereabouts is asked to call Suffolk Police at 923-2350, or Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP. Callers to Crime Line never have to give their names or appear in court, and they may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
