Dorothy Boone Ricks, 79, of 304 Webb St., Suffolk, Va., died Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010 at Autumn Care of Suffolk. She was a native of Nansemond County and the daughter of the late Hardy and Sarah Bell Boone. She was also preceded in death by a son, Dwight C. Ricks Sr.; a sister, Edna B. Savage; and a nephew, Douglas A. Boone.
She was a graduate of East Suffolk High School class of 1948 and attended Norfolk Division of Virginia State College (now Norfolk State University). She retired from General Electric Company. Ms. Ricks was a member of Metropolitan Baptist Church and its Mass and Chapel Choirs.
She leaves to cherish her memory one daughter, Brenda Ricks Bullock (William). of Richmond, Va.; one sister, Nettie Faulk, of Suffolk; a devoted niece, Arthalia Denise Kahan (Vernell), of Suffolk; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild; one daughter-in-law, Coleen Ricks, of Orlando, Fla.; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and devoted friends.
A home going celebration will be held Friday, Jan. 22, 2010 at noon at Metropolitan Baptist Church, officiated by Dr. Robert L. Hobbs. Interment will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
