Suffolk Fire Marshals are investigating the cause of a fire early Wednesday morning that heavily damaged a home and temporarily closed all four lanes of Pruden Boulevard.
Dispatchers received a report of a structure fire in the 3800 block of Pruden Boulevard just after 2 a.m. Wednesday, according to a Suffolk spokesperson. When fire and rescue units arrived on the scene, they found heavy smoke along the road and closed eastbound and westbound lanes because of poor visibility.
Firefighters battled the blaze at the wood-framed residence for about two hours before it was deemed to be under control, Suffolk spokesperson Debbie George stated.
Witnesses told emergency officials that an elderly man lived in the home. Investigation revealed that he was out of state at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported.
