Georgetown freshman TaShauna Rodgers (King’s Fork) earned her third appearance on the Big East Weekly Honor Roll this season after leading the Lady Hoyas past No. 3/4 Notre Dame Saturday in Washington, D.C.

Last week, Rodgers averaged 20.0 points per game. Against Notre Dame, Rodgers led GU with 24 points, six rebounds and three steals as Georgetown won 76-66.

On Tuesday, Rodgers totaled 23 points, five rebounds and three steals as Georgetown won at Villanova 70-54. Villanova led by five at halftime. Rodgers scored 15 points in the second half to help the Lady Hoyas turn the game around. In the last three games, Rodgers has made 11 three-pointers.

Georgetown (23-4, 12-2) has four wins against nationally-ranked teams this season. The Lady Hoyas are No. 13 in this week’s Associated Press Poll and No. 12 in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll.

Georgetown hosts Jacksonville St. Thursday night and goes to Storrs, Conn. Saturday to face No. 1 Connecticut at 12 p.m.

Virginia Wesleyan senior Jason Taylor (Nansemond River) placed fourth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 51.49 seconds Saturday at the Mason-Dixon Championship at Christopher Newport. Taylor was one of eight Marlin track and field athletes to earn All-Mason-Dixon honors.

In his first game as a Keydet, freshman Erickson Keeton (Nansemond River) hit home runs in his first two collegiate at-bats as Virginia Military won 9-4 against Bucknell Saturday at Prince George High School.

Keeton, in right field for VMI, hit a two-run homer and a solo shot. VMI went on to sweep all three games against Bucknell. Junior Justin Topping (Nansemond River) started at catcher in all three games for the Keydets. Topping had two RBI in the series.

Marshall freshman Isaac Ballou (Nansemond-Suffolk) was the Thundering Herd’s starting centerfielder and leadoff hitter as Marshall opened its baseball season with four games at Samford this past weekend.

Ballou hit a solo home run the season opener. In the finale of the series on Sunday, a 10-6 Marshall win, Ballou went 3-for-6 at the plate with a double, triple and three RBI. Marshall went 2-2 in the series.

William and Mary’s baseball squad opened its season last weekend with a three-game sweep over visiting Maryland-Eastern Shore. Sophomore Matt Davenport (Nansemond-Suffolk) pitched 4.2 shutout innings to get the victory in the Tribe’s season opener. Davenport allowed three hits and struck out six.

Last season, Davenport made the All-CAA Rookie Team with a 6-2 record and 4.71 ERA, both of which led the Tribe pitching staff.
