Residents in the Burbage Landing Circle area were allowed to return to their homes about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday after being evacuated because of a gas leak.

Traffic was rerouted and homes were evacuated in the area around the 6700 block of Burbage Landing Circle while emergency crews work to repair a ruptured gas line.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue workers were on the scene early Wednesday. Virginia Natural Gas responded to the scene and determined the gas line belonged to Columbia Gas, which then also responded to the scene.
