A two-vehicle accident on U.S. Route 58 eastbound stalled traffic on the busy road Wednesday morning.

The accident, which occurred about 10:50 a.m., occurred when a Ford Explorer attempted to pass a van near the Pitchkettle Road exit, according to city spokeswoman Debbie George. The Explorer struck the van in the rear. The van spun and came to rest in the median. The Explorer, however, overturned and ejected its driver, a 37-year-old female. She was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with injuries that do not appear life-threatening, George said.

The eastbound side of the road was completely closed for about 20 minutes, after which one lane was opened for traffic to pass. The road was completely reopened after about an hour, George said.
