Boston College won two of three games this weekend against visiting Duke in an ACC baseball series.

In BC’s 5-3 win during Saturday’s doubleheader, junior Matt Hamlet (Nansemond-Suffolk) helped the Eagles with a game-tying RBI single and a run scored in a three-run eighth inning.

BC (10-13, 3-6) won Sunday’s game 2-1. Hamlet went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and a run scored. Neither team recorded an extra-base hit in the game.

For the year, Hamlet is hitting .305 with three homers, 15 RBI and 11 sacrifices. Defensively, between second base and left field, Hamlet’s committed one error.

Radford senior centerfielder Tyren Rivers (Nansemond River) combined for a 6-for-11 performance at the plate as the Highlander baseball squad (12-9) took two of three games this weekend against Siena.

Rivers hit his second and third home runs of the year during the series, totaling seven RBI and four runs. For the season, Rivers is hitting .304 with eight doubles and 10 stolen bases. Rivers has made one error (.984 fielding percentage) on defense.

Virginia Military won two of three Big South baseball games against visiting Charleston Southern this weekend. The Keydets (20-4, 4-2) are ranked No. 28 in the nation by Collegiate Baseball.

VMI won 13-3 Friday, then split games, a 1-0 loss and 7-2 win, Saturday.

Junior Justin Topping (Nansemond River) is hitting .283 for the Keydets. Freshmen Ombri Rivers (Nansemond River) and Erickson Keeton (Nansemond River) are hitting .400 and .263 respectively.

VMI travels to Virginia Tech for a 5:30 p.m. start Tuesday.

William and Mary opened its CAA baseball slate by winning two of three games against Delaware this weekend in Williamsburg.

On Saturday, the Tribe beat the Blue Hens 5-4 in 12 innings. Sophomore Matt Davenport (Nansemond-Suffolk) came out of the bullpen to pitch the last 6.1 innings and get the win for the Tribe (16-8, 2-1). Davenport allowed six hits and four walks, but no runs, while striking out 10.

Davenport is 5-0 with a 1.59 ERA and 39 strikeouts in 45.1 innings pitched for the season.

Chowan’s softball squad moved to a perfect 14-0 in CIAA play with a doubleheader sweep, 7-1 and 6-0, at Elizabeth City State.

Junior outfielder Mindy Byrd (King’s Fork) went 4-for-4 at the plate with three walks, two runs, one RBI and one hit-by-pitch in the doubleheader.

Byrd is hitting .442 (42-for-95) with nine doubles, three homers, 35 runs, 33 RBI and 12 stolen bases for the Lady Hawks.

Chowan (20-17, 14-0) hosts a doubleheader with South Carolina-Aiken Saturday at 1 p.m.

Mount Olive’s softball team won three of four games this weekend against conference foes Pfeiffer and Belmont Abbey.

Sophomore Sarah Saunders (Lakeland) pitched in two of the Lady Trojan victories. Saunders got the victory in an 8-6 win over Belmont Abbey Sunday, pitching 5.2 innings. Saunders (2-5) allowed three earned runs in 8.1 innings for the weekend.

Sophomore Katie Devenuto (Lakeland) started in three of the four games for Mt. Olive (14-21, 5-3 Conference Carolinas), totaling two hits, two RBI and three walks.

Freshman Lindsey Holloman (King’s Fork) started both games at third base for Charlotte as the Lady 49ers swept Atlantic 10 opponent St. Bonaventure 8-0 and 9-1 Saturday in Charlotte. Holloman’s started 13 games for Charlotte (21-6, 2-0).
