Tips from the public led police to a woman now accused of stealing credit cards from a parked car and using them at a convenience store.

Pamela Gates Darden, 41, of the 200 block of Chestnut Street, is charged with one count of credit card theft, one count of attempted credit card fraud, one count of attempting to receive stolen goods, one count of identity theft, one count of third offense petit larceny and one count of entering a vehicle to commit a crime.

Police say that sometime on March 17 or March 18, someone removed a wallet from an unlocked vehicle parked in the 100 block of North Main Street. Early on March 18, a female used a card from the stolen wallet to make a purchase at a Carolina Road convenience store.

Police released video and photographs from the store’s surveillance video to the public, hoping someone would identify the woman.

Darden was arrested on April 16. Her bond from Western Tidewater Regional Jail was set at $10,000.
