Police have identified the Norfolk serviceman killed in a single-vehicle motorcycle accident Tuesday.

Akil Jamile Smith, 25, of Norfolk, was traveling south in the 2100 block of Kings Fork Road, near its intersection with Joshua Lane, when he lost control of the motorcycle, ran off the road to the right, ran into a ditch and then struck a pole, city spokeswoman Debbie George said. The accident occurred about 6:50 p.m. Tuesday.

Smith died on the way to Sentara Obici Hospital. The police investigation indicated that speed may have been a factor in the crash, George added.
