Benedict junior Charae Rice (Nansemond River) finished the SIAC (Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) Softball Tournament with three individual awards over the weekend in Columbus, Ga.

Rice was named First Team All-SIAC as a third baseman and Second Team All-SIAC as a utility player. She was also named to the SIAC All-Tournament Team. Benedict finished the tournament with a 4-2 record and is now 30-10 overall.

Rice is leading the nation (NCAA Division II) in batting average (.545) and doubles per game. Rice is in the top 10 in the nation in on-base percentage (.604), triples (6), runs per game and slugging percentage (.950).

Boston College swept three ACC baseball games at North Carolina St. over the weekend, improving the Eagles’ to 23-17 overall and 12-9 in the ACC.

Junior Matt Hamlet (Nansemond-Suffolk) went 7-for-13 at the plate with five RBI in the series. In Sunday’s game, with the game tied 10-10 in the top of the ninth inning, Hamlet delivered the game-winning run with a single.

Hamlet, a second baseman, is hitting .306 with 36 runs and 28 RBI on the year. BC’s next ACC series is this Friday-Sunday at Virginia Tech.

Radford’s baseball team (20-19, 8-7) won two of three games at Big South rival Winthrop last weekend.

Senior center fielder Tyren Rivers (Nansemond River) went 5-for-14 at the plate as RU’s leadoff hitter. Rivers totaled three runs, two RBI and two stolen bases in the series.

Rivers is hitting .328 with 40 runs, 31 RBI, 11 doubles, five homers and 23 stolen bases on the season.

Charlotte’s softball team swept a conference doubleheader against LaSalle Saturday in Charlotte. Charlotte nipped LaSalle in both games, winning 3-2 and 1-0.

Freshman Lindsey Holloman (King’s Fork) was 1-for-3 with a double in the 1-0 game. In both contests, Holloman, at third base, went 7-for-7 on fielding chances. Charlotte (34-13, 12-2) is tied for second in the Atlantic 10 with six conference games remaining.

Hampden-Sydney completed its lacrosse regular season with a 12-8 win at Randolph-Macon Saturday.

Senior Kyle Jett (Nansemond-Suffolk) scored five goals for the Tigers, including four straight in the second quarter to push HSC’s lead to 8-2.

Jett’s points Saturday gave him the single-season scoring record for a Hampden-Sydney midfielder (62) and put him into second place all-time in scoring for HSC midfielders (145).

Jett was voted the ODAC (Old Dominion Athletic Conference) Player of the Week.

Hampden-Sydney (12-4, 5-2) is the No. 3 seed in the ODAC Tournament. HSC hosts Virginia Wesleyan in the first round Wednesday.
