Ida Saunders

On the morning of May 5, 2010, our beloved Ida “IV” Virginia Saunders, 81, of Magnolia Gardens entered into eternal rest. She was born in Drewryville, Va. on May 8, 1928 to the late John and Ida Jones.
IV was part of many organizations in New York. She helped to collaborate the family group the Gospel Jewels of New York, as well as the Gospel Choraletts of Suffolk, Va.
She was employed by the New York State Department of Social Services until she retired and relocated back home to Virginia, and also was a devoted and active member of Saint Paul Baptist Church.
Left behind to cherish IV’s beautiful memory are her five sisters, Arnetha Wilkins, Rebecca Johnson, Helen Holland, Elenor Walker and Carolyn Jones; two brothers, Roy Chester Jones and Howard Jones; two aunts; two uncles, two sisters-in-law, Elmira Jones and Vonzetta Jones; her beloved niece, Brenda Broadnax (Charles), whom she considered as a daughter; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Ms. Saunders will be on view from noon to 6 p.m., and a wake service will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., on Tuesday, May 11 at the funeral home. A service of remembrance will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, May 12 at Saint Paul Baptist Church. She will be laid to rest in the T.E. Cooke-Overton Garden of Carver Memorial Cemetery.
