NSU goes into MEAC tournament

Norfolk State’s baseball team is the No. 3 seed going into the MEAC Tournament starting Thursday at Jackie Robinson Ballpark in Daytona Beach, Fla.

The Spartans (19-27-1) will start off against No. 4 Delaware St. in the double-elimination tournament. The winner of the MEAC Tournament gets an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.

Junior John Rasberry (Lakeland/Greenbrier Christian) has started 44 games in the outfield for NSU this season. Rasberry’s hitting .329 with 41 runs, 14 stolen bases and 10 doubles.

Radford’s baseball squad’s won 10 of its last 13 contests. Senior leadoff hitter Tyren Rivers (Nansemond River) has sparked the Highlanders throughout. In the last three games, Rivers has totaled three runs and five stolen bases.

For the season, Rivers is hitting .302 with 12 doubles, five homers and 32 stolen bases.

Radford (29-22, 15-9 Big South) won two of three versus Gardner-Webb and beat Marshall 15-5 in the last week. The Highlanders close their regular season hosting a three-game series against nationally-ranked, No. 4 Coastal Carolina Thursday-Saturday.
