At the end of every show there is a moment where the audience calls for an encore. There are rounds of applause, shows of gratitude and standing ovations.

Last week, after a tremendous series of shows, the Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts season came to a close. In the coming weeks, the center will unveil its 2010-2011 season, which will no doubt rival the entertainment experiences thousands enjoyed this season.

From the percussion artists of BAM! to the “Love Letters” of Barbara Eden and Hal Linden, from the musings of George Burns and Gracie Allen to the personification of President Franklin Roosevelt by the incomparable Ed Asner, the 2009-2010 season proved extremely memorable and enjoyable.

As the staff, members and season ticket holders of the Suffolk Center take a small break for the summer, we thought we would take a moment to thank them for a great season.

It was a pleasure to sit in the auditorium as we kicked off the holiday season with “The Nutcracker” and watched as our friends, family and neighbors took to the stage as part of the SCCA Community Players’ rendition of “Oliver!”

When it comes to the arts, many things are subjective. Some people love a particular play, while there are others who would not spend an evening with such a show.

While there are many who would enjoy the music of one artist, there are others who would not book the night.

But SCCA leaders must work to put together a season that appeals to the masses and offers a cross-section of artistic experiences that would draw a crowd each and every time.

It is by no means an easy task and the success of the most recent season doesn’t make it any easier.

We had a great time this year, and we can’t wait for next year.
