NRHS student charged in trash fire

A high school girl has been charged with attempted arson after fire marshals say she tried to set a fire in a bathroom at Nansemond River High School.

Investigators from the Suffolk Fire Marshal’s Office charged the 16-year-old NRHS student with threatening to burn and attempted arson.

The fire department was called to the school on May 11 in reference to a student who had a lighter, had made threats and had attempted to set a fire in an upstairs bathroom at the school, according to a media release from the city.

The girl was arrested on May 20, and currently is being held at Tidewater Detention Home.
