Suffolk Police are investigating the shooting of a 16-year-old male in the downtown area Thursday.

Police were notified just before 3 p.m. of shots fired in the area of Wellons and Smith streets after King’s Fork High School students got off a school bus, city spokeswoman Debbie George said. Witnesses reported that four shots were fired.

The victim, a 16-year-old boy, suffered an abrasion to his leg. He did not have to be taken to the hospital, George said. Police do not believe the victim was the target of the shooting.
