Two young Portsmouth men have been arrested in connection with a downtown-Suffolk shooting in which a Suffolk teenager suffered a slight abrasion after getting off a school bus on Thursday.

Devin Rashard Wells, 19, of Magnolia Drive was arrested on Thursday, and Maurice Daquan Moore, 18, of Darby Close, was arrested on Friday, according to Suffolk spokesperson Debbie George.

Each man was charged with one count of malicious wounding, one count of using a firearm in the commission of a felony and one count of conspiracy to commit a felony.

Police say that Wells and Moore had an altercation with someone who had gotten off the bus, according to a press release. Several shots were fired following the argument, and a 16-year-old male sustained an abrasion to his leg, possibly as a result of a bullet ricocheting off the pavement, George said in the release. The injury was not severe enough to send the boy to the hospital.

The victim had been on a bus that was bringing King’s Fork High School students home to Smith Street in the area of Wellons Street on Thursday after school. Police said at the time that they did not believe he was the target of the shooting.

The school bus already had left the area when the shots were fired, police said, and there were no other injuries.

Both men are being held without bond at Western Tidewater Regional Jail.
