Post 57 rally falls just short

Suffolk Post 57 lost its second one-run game in two nights Tuesday in a 12-11 loss to Phoebus Post 48 at a senior division American Legion game at King’s Fork High School.

Suffolk scored five runs in the bottom of the ninth. Jake Grady scored on a passed ball with two outs to make it 12-11 Phoebus, but Suffolk couldn’t come up with one more run. Travis Cherry and Anthony Waldner hit doubles during the last-inning rally. Cherry got the loss on the mound, pitching four innings.

On Monday in Newport News, Newport News Post 255 edged Suffolk with a four-run comeback in the ninth for a 7-6 win.

Suffolk Post 57 (0-4) hosts a doubleheader on Sunday starting at 1 p.m. Suffolk faces Hampton Roads Post 31 at Nansemond-Suffolk Academy.
