The five-star customer service designation is limited to only those nursing units of hospitals or health facilities that achieved a score in the top 10 percent of the nation, based on the percentage of patients who rated their nursing unit as “excellent” for overall quality of care in 2009.

Bon Secours Harbour View also received four-star awards for outpatient overall quality of care. The four-star designation is received by hospitals that achieved a score in the top 25 percent of the nation, based on the same standard.

Bon Secours Hampton Roads was also recognized with five-star and four-star awards related to medical staff perception surveys. Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center in Churchland achieved five-star status for the facility’s pathology and laboratory departments.

Five-star medical staff perception awards are given annually to healthcare facilities that achieved a score in the top 10 percent of the nation, based on the percentage of physicians who rated the service as “excellent” for any of the 13 questions listed in the survey.

Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center’s radiology and medical records departments received a four-star designation. The department scored between the 75th and 89.9th percentile in the facilities’ most recent medical staff perception survey.
