Ethel J. Massenburg, 69, of 724 Nixon Drive, Suffolk, passed away Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at Sentara Obici Hospital. She was a native of Nansemond County and the daughter of the late George Griffin and Julia Harrell. She was predeceased by her husband, Grady Massenburg Jr., and a son, Jerome Massenburg.
She attended Suffolk Public Schools and retired from Norshipco as a shop clerk after 29 years of service.
She leaves to cherish her memory: one daughter, Sharlene Stevenson, of Suffolk; a foster daughter, Josephine Bolling, of Suffolk; one son, Grady Massenburg III, of Suffolk; one sister, Susie H. Bennett (Leroy), of Suffolk; sisters-in-law, Bernice Dixon (Ernest), and Paulette Porter (Calvin); brothers-in-law, Thomas P. Massenburg and Larry Massenburg; three grandchildren, Sharyl Stevenson, Shequita Stevenson, Kiara Goodman; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A funeral will be held at noon Saturday, June 26, 2010 at Greater Sweet Beulah Holiness Church officiated by Suffragan Bishop Madison G. Copeland. Interment will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. The family will assemble at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Bennett, 2004 Nansemond Parkway, Suffolk at 11 a.m. on Saturday for the procession to the funeral.
