Police responding to a domestic call on Friday found a marijuana-growing operation in a home that doubles as a children’s daycare, a city spokeswoman said Monday.

Officers answered a call for a domestic disturbance in the 1000 block of Snead Drive, in the Hillpoint neighborhood, city spokeswoman Debbie George said. When police arrived, one of the homeowners showed the officers marijuana plants, saying he had grown them himself.

After securing a search warrant for the home, officers located hydroponic growing equipment in the master bedroom and closet, as well as $400 worth of marijuana.

“They also learned, in the course of their investigation, that a day care was run out of the residence,” George said.

The only children at the scene when the police were there two children, 9 months and 3 years old, who belong to the homeowners, George said.

Child Protective Services has been notified of the case, George said. No arrests have yet been made, but charges are anticipated, she said.
