Suffolk communities are preparing for one of the city’s largest National Night Out events ever tonight.

Several new businesses and communities have come on board this year, making a total of more than 60 party locations and setting a record for the city.

“We’re geared to have one of the largest National Night Out events ever in the city of Suffolk,” said Diana Klink, Suffolk’s National Night Out coordinator. “With the participation of our communities, we definitely feel hat we can bring back the first-place trophy to the city of Suffolk.”

The city’s Night Out celebration came in first place in 2008 and 2009 among communities in its population category. A scrapbook and video presentation are judged by a nationwide committee to name the top contenders.

A kickoff event will be held at 5:30 p.m. at the King’s Fork Public Safety Center. From there, motorcade tours of law enforcement and dignitaries will depart to visit each of the registered events.

“It’s the largest party that Suffolk has thrown since we started our National Night Out participation,” Klink said.

A few citizens are welcome to join the motorcades. Those who want to find a party to attend can visit www.suffolknno.org for a full list of localities.
