Residents in the 100 block of Mahan Street are back in their homes after being evacuated because of a gas leak.

Only six homes had to be evacuated, rather than the 15 previously considered.

Virginia Natural Gas arrived on scene about 1 p.m. to deal with the leak, city spokeswoman Debbie George said. There was no word on what caused the leak.
