Ann Saunders

Ann Baker Saunders, 88, formerly of 816 McKinley Ave., Suffolk passed away Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2010 at Sentara Obici Hospital. She was a native of Nansemond County, Va., and the daughter of the late Margaret Baker. She was reared by her late grandmother, Ella B. Baker.
She retired as a clerk for the Retail Merchant’s Association. She was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church, where she was a member of The M.P. Mitchell Usher Board, former treasurer of the church, and Trustee Emeritus. She was basically a former member of all the organizations of the church, except the Deacon Board and the Men’s Fellowship.
She leaves to cherish her memory: two stepdaughters, Celesia L. Saunders and Jean Crocker; two stepsons, Henry M. Saunders Jr. and James B. Saunders; one brother, James W. Baker, of San Francisco, Calif.; three nieces, Betty Vick (William), Elsie Harden (Henry) and Ella G. Mabrey; three nephews, (one devoted nephew as a son) Suffragan Bishop Madison G. Copeland (Pauline), Philmore Copeland and Clyde Edmond (Mary); and a host of other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held at noon Saturday, Aug. 21, 2010 in St. Paul Baptist Church, 806 Lincoln Ave. in Suffolk, officiated by Bishop C.V. Russell III. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home of Suffragan Bishop Madison G. Copeland, 1337 White Marsh Road, Suffolk and will assemble there on Saturday at 11 a.m. for the procession to the church. Crocker Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
