If you have suitcases or stuffed animals that haven’t seen the outside of the closet in a while, they may find a better home elsewhere.

The Girl Scouts are collecting items to donate to local children in the foster care system. The items will be collected through Sept. 10, when they will be distributed to area children.

Donations of new or gently used suitcases, duffel bags, book bags, stuffed animals, blankets, books, coloring books, crayons, journals and pens, new toothbrushes, toothpaste, underwear and socks.

Donations can be dropped off anytime before Sept. 10 at A Place for Girls, 912 Cedar Road in Chesapeake, or the Peninsula Service Center, 813 Forrest Drive, Suite B in Newport News.

The Girl Scouts will pack all donations on Sept. 10, and deliver to local foster care children the following week.
