Lady Cavs leading college squads

Two goals: Lakeland alum Lindsay Cutchins scored two goals and two assists in JMU’s first two matches of the field hockey season. JMU beat Rutgers 6-0 and Kent St. 4-0 Friday and Sunday in Harrisonburg.

Former Lakeland standout Lindsay Cutchins had a goal and an assist in a pair of James Madison field hockey wins as JMU, ranked No. 12 in the nation, started its season with a 6-0 win against Rutgers Friday in Harrisonburg and a 4-0 win against Kent State Sunday at JMU.

Cutchins, a junior defender, had three goals and six assists in 2009.

Nine minutes into the Kent State match, Cutchins deflected a shot into the Golden Flash goal to put JMU up 1-0. JMU scored three more goals in the next 4:22.

The Lady Dukes host two more matches this weekend, facing Louisville Saturday and No. 10 Duke Sunday.

Another Class of ’08 Lady Cavalier, Lynsey Daughtrey, is in her third season as a starting defender for Radford.

The Lady Highlanders opened their season with two wins on a trip to Ohio this weekend. Radford beat Ohio 1-0 Friday and St. Louis 3-0 on Saturday in Athens, Ohio. Daughtrey started both games for RU.

Radford plays Siena in its home-opener Wednesday and plays at William and Mary Saturday at 2 p.m.
