Downtown Suffolk will have double the fun this Saturday.

After the Taste of Suffolk, Suffolk 60 Care will host its first “Crab Pickin’ for a Purpose” at Constant’s Wharf from 5 to 9 p.m.

“Families can continue their day out in the city waterside,” Suffolk 60 Care’s president Jessica Mullen said. “We’re putting together family-friendly activities for families to sit back, relax and enjoy the evening with good music, food and friends.”

The dinner includes an all-you-can-eat crab meal, fried chicken, roasted red potatoes, corn on the cob, rolls and desserts. Adult tickets include two adult drinks.

Live music by A Touch of Spice and family-friendly activities will also be on site.

Tickets are $30 for adults and $15 for children under 12 years and are available at A. Dodson’s in North Suffolk, Uniquely Leo’s or the Suffolk Visitor’s Center in downtown or through any Suffolk 60 Care member.

Tickets will not be sold at the door, but can be purchased at the cornhole tournament, which is sponsored by the organization, at the Taste of Suffolk.

The event, which Mullen called the “Taste of Suffolk after-party,” is replacing the organization’s gala ball as its primary fundraiser for the year.

As such, administrators hope to sell at least 300 tickets, a goal that has been met halfway.

“The gala was a success for the past few years, but we decided it was time to spice things up and do it a bit differently,” Mullen said. “We wanted to have greater exposure in the community while at the same time put an event together that included family and friends.”

All proceeds from the event will go toward funding local charities. In the past five years, the group has donated more than $150,000 to organizations such as the Chuckatuck Volunteer Fire Department, ForKids, United Way of South Hampton Roads and the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia.
