A day after a Boeing location in Suffolk announced it was closing its doors, city leaders already are announcing a new defense support business that will lease space in the same area.

I Information Technologies, Inc. (or ISHPI), has leased 31,000 square feet of office, research and development space within Bridgeway Commerce Center, according to a city press release. The operation will support operations for the Department of Homeland Security and Department of Defense, including their various subdivisions such as the U.S. Navy and Coast Guard. The project is expected to bring more than 200 jobs to Suffolk within the next two years.

ISHPI already supports the intelligence community at locations from Massachusetts to Florida and west to Texas.

“ISHPI’s expansion to Hampton Roads will allow us to better serve our growing client base in the area and along the East Coast, and it is right in line with our strategic goals,” ISHPI president and chief executive officer Noah T. Leask said in the press release. “Being close to our clients and their mission allows us to continue to provide solutions at an even greater speed, ensuring success.”

City leaders, gathered for the City Council retreat, were optimistic about the outlook of the North Suffolk technology corridor.

“I’m still optimistic,” Mayor Linda T. Johnson said shortly before the announcement was made. “Things are going to change, I’m sure. I think we have capability of backfilling.”

After Economic Development Director Kevin Hughes told council members of the newest business coming to Suffolk, Johnson affirmed her earlier statement.

“I think we need to keep all this in perspective,” she said. “The bottom line is, it’s a thriving corridor.”

The new location should be fully functional by late October, the press release said.
