Katelin Jones

Jones, 16, attends First Baptist Christian School and is a resident of Corapeake, N.C. She is a varsity cheer captain; an active member of Eureka Baptist youth group, Acteens; on the homecoming committee; participated in the school science fair and a vocalist for Ministry in Music and holiday programs at Eureka Baptist Church. She was also on honor roll, a member of the homecoming court and won the varsity cheerleading leadership award. She was also a volunteer in 2010 with the Suffolk Moose Lodge’s children’s Christmas party, Operation In-As-Much, at Camp Cale, with Outer Banks Ministries, at the Heritage Day festival and at Eureka Baptist Church. Parents are Wayne and Cindy Jones.

Meredith Overton

Overton, 17, attends First Baptist Christian School and is a resident of Suffolk. She participated in the science fair, was a member of the homecoming court and was named second-team all-conference in basketball. She was also a volunteer in 2010 at Parents’ Night Out and in 2009 with First Baptist Church, Harvest Fellowship Baptist Church, Operation Christmas Child and the homeless shelter. Parents are Scott and Kelli Overton.

Ashley Key

Key, 17, attends Nansemond River High School and is a resident of Suffolk. She is a four-year varsity letter winner for cheerleading; a member of the Beta Club, Future Business Leaders of America, Thespian Society; active in school theater; and a member of Faith Alive Ministries. She also won several awards for cheerleading and was a Peanut Fest Goober Gang member in 2008 and 2009. Parents are Lisa and Andrew Key.

Kalea Leverette

Leverette, 16, attends Nansemond River High School and is a resident of Suffolk. She was active as the vice president of the school’s Beta Club, as a varsity cheerleader, with the school’s drama team, selected as the “People to People” ambassador, won the Girl Scouts’ silver award and was on honor roll at the school. She was also a volunteer at Obici Hospital and a member of the Ebony Achievers and Union Missionary Baptist Church. Parents are Glen and Marian Leverette.

Hannah Joyce

Joyce attends Lakeland High School. She played on the field hockey and soccer teams and is secretary of the Anchor Club. She volunteered at the American Red Cross and veterinarian’s hospital. Parents are Mr. and Mrs. Larry Joyce.

Jennifer Humphrey

Humphrey, 17, attends King’s Fork High School and is a resident of Suffolk. She is a member of the field hockey team, captain of the tennis team and a member of the Beta Club. She also plays piano and has been in chorus. She is a member of the National Honor Society, was named Most Valuable Player on the school’s tennis team, was selected to be the representative for the Woodsman Award and received an honorable mention for tennis in the Southeastern District. She is an active volunteer in the church nursery, the heart association’s annual campaign in her neighborhood, Operation Smile and the Samaritan’s Purse. Parents are Pamela and Timothy Humphrey.

Whitney Nichols

Nichols, 16, attends Kings Fork High School and is a resident of Suffolk. She was a member of the school’s varsity basketball, volleyball and soccer teams; captain of the Suffolk Blazer basketball team; a member of Delta Gems; a member of the National Junior Honor Society and Beta Club; and member of the Health Occupation Students of America. She received coach’s award in soccer and basketball; a leadership award in volleyball; was named president of her sophomore class; and achieved honor roll. She is president of Ebenezer Baptist Church’s youth usher board and praise dance ministry. She is also a volunteer with the church’s homeless ministry, Oasis Foundation and the Suffolk Peanut Fest’s Goober Gang. Parents are Overton and Damita Nichols.

Morgan Duplain

Duplain, 18, attends Nansemond-Suffolk Academy and is a resident of Suffolk. Her activities include lacrosse, basketball, cheerleading, soccer, running, gymnastics and yearbook committee. She received the most-improved award for cheerleading and junior varsity basketball. She contributed literary work for Spectrum. Her volunteer activities include the Relay for Life, a volunteer position at Jody’s Popcorn and the Helping Hands Club. Parents are H. Lee and Gayle Duplain.

Ciara Viola

Viola, 17, attends Nansemond-Suffolk Academy and is a resident of Suffolk. Her activities include spring and fall cheerleading, lacrosse, piano and co-secretary of the student council. She won coach’s award for fall cheerleading and lacrosse; most improved for winter cheerleading; team leadership award for lacrosse; juror’s award in the “Exhibit of Excellence” at Suffolk Museum; and first place for clay piece in the school’s art show. Her volunteer work includes the YMCA summer leadership club, summer work at Lake Prince Woods, the Mutt Strut, Relay for Life, school activities and March of Dimes, and she went to Ethiopia as a student with Operation Smile.
