Monday night football didn’t go well for the Miami Dolphins or Nansemond River High. At Arrowhead Stadium, Deep Creek ran over and around the Warriors for a 35-0 halftime lead and a 37-7 Southeastern District win.

The Hornet offense gained all 277 of its yards on the ground and the big majority of it in the first half. Deep Creek scored touchdowns on all five of its possessions in the first half.

The Hornets scored four times on the ground and once, to go up 21-0 in the last minute of the first quarter, on a blocked punt and recovery in the endzone.

The Warriors (1-4, 1-3) showed more spirit, and a different formation on offense, after halftime to get on the board.

Running backs Lamont Brown and Jalen Thrower lined up side-by-side taking shotgun snaps for most of the second half.

Brown and Thrower carried on all six plays of a 50-yard touchdown drive in the third quarter. Thrower, normally NR’s fullback, went through the line on handoffs from Brown for carries of 17 yards and 12 yards. Brown scored with a 3-yard rush. Thrower finished with seven carries for 47 yards.

The Hornets added a safety, on a wild shotgun snap by the Warriors, early in the fourth quarter for the 37-7 score.

Nansemond River (1-4, 1-3) has only three days to prepare for a home date against Great Bridge (5-0, 4-0). The Wildcats are coming off a 35-7 win over King’s Fork on Saturday.
