Lady Saints take 2nd at home CC meet

Katelyn McCracken and Maya Venkataraman finished third and fourth respectively to lead Nansemond-Suffolk’s girls cross country team to a runner-up finish in the NSA Cross Country Invitational Friday afternoon.

NSA and Bishop Sullivan finished tied for second behind Peninsula Catholic. The Knights also won the boys meet with NSA placing fifth of seven schools.

McCracken ran the course in 20:48 and Venkataraman came in at 21:17. Darcy King (23:30, 10th), Macy Mears (24:36, 16th) and Katey Miller (25:13, 19th) made up the rest of NSA’s team score.

Marc Leber finished 13th in a time of 18:49 to lead NSA’s boys team. Thomas Ball (20:20, 21st), Reid Williams (21:19, 28th), Clayton Poffenberger (21:23, 29th) and Anthony Waldner (21:30, 30th) made up the rest of NSA’s top five.

Norfolk Collegiate’s Ryan Lanoue won the boys race in 17:31. Bishop Sullivan’s Hannah Frazier won the girls meet in 19:13.

The second-place finish was the third one of the season for the Lady Saints. They were also second in meets in Williamsburg and at Mount Trashmore.

NSA has two more meets to the regular season before the Tidewater Conference Championship in Chesapeake on Nov. 5.
