The Nansemond River Pilot Club’s massive craft show and fall fair is moving to a larger venue this year to accommodate more vendors and shoppers.

Leslie Adams, chairwoman of the show, talked her fellow club members into moving the show to Suffolk’s National Guard Armory this year after it has been held in a church the last few years.

“We actually have over 45 craft vendors,” Adams said. “It’s jam-packed.”

Booths at the show, to be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., will display everything from jewelry and hand-painted feather art to homemade food and metal decorations. Proceeds from booth rentals will help the club perform its mission of preventing brain disorders, diseases and injuries and educating the public on their effects.

“We’re asking for the community to help support those in the community that need this awareness and need this help,” Adams said. “They can come out and enjoy the crafts, but also know that they’re helping the community by showing their support.”

The show also will include fall pansies and sales of barbecue, pimento cheese, Brunswick stew and baked goods.

The club supports several organizations like the Alzheimer’s Association, American Cancer Society, March of Dimes and others that frequently deal with brain diseases, disorders and injuries.

“The event is to get money to raise awareness around our community of these issues and diseases,” Adams said. “I think it is going to be a really fun event this year. “I’m very, very excited about it.”
