A Suffolk man already charged with stealing from two Suffolk businesses now faces an additional charge connected to the robbery of a third business.
Kevin Colbert, 24, was arrested Oct. 20 after a man tried to take money from the cash register at Red Barn, located in the 100 block of East Pinner Street. The attempt was thwarted when the store clerk slammed the register drawer shut on the man’s hands as he allegedly reached into the till for money, according to city spokeswoman Debbie George.
The Red Barn manager chased the man from the store, and police apprehended Colbert a short time later.
When police caught Colbert, they served an outstanding warrant on him for allegedly taking several hundred dollars from the counter of Park and Shop in the 400 block of East Washington Street on Sept. 22, George said.
Colbert’s latest charges stem from the Oct. 12 robbery of the BP gas station in the 600 block of Carolina Road. Surveillance video of that incident showed a suspect placing candy on the counter and then demanding money, jumping over the counter and taking money from the register before fleeing the store.
Colbert is being held at Western Tidewater Regional Jail with no bond.
